Mr. Abdurahman A. Hussien
Mr. Abdurahman is a senior research fellow at HESPI. He earned MSc. Degree in Development Economics from the University of Copenhagen. Before joining HESPI, he worked at the University of Copenhagen and the former Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI). Abdurahman has more than 10 years experience in socio-economic research and teaching Economics courses. His areas of research interest include poverty and inequality, climate change and livelihoods, youth employment and labor market, early childhood development, public finance management (PFM), and macroeconomics. Abdurahman has produced working papers and published articles in topics including inequality of opportunity in child health, the contribution of Sustainable Training and Education Program (STEP) to employment prospects for the youth, Enhancing Cross-Border Infrastructure Cooperation in the Horn of Africa, Prognosis of Balance of Payment Position in Ethiopia, understanding Total Factor Productivity (TFP) Shortfall in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the impact of trade policy on TFP in a cross-country setting. He has presented his work in various academic and policy conferences. Abdurahman has been involved in designing and running randomized control trials (RCTs) in program evaluations. Among others, these include evaluating the impact of Ethiopian Productive Safety Nets livelihood transfers on welfare of rural households; the contribution of Fresh Food Voucher Programme in reducing stunting in Amhara region of Ethiopia; impact of EU funded programs on Strengthening Socio-Economic Development and Better Employment Opportunities for Refugees and Host Communities in Somali region of Ethiopia.
