Dr. Abdirizak Hassan
Country Director of HESPI Kenya
Dr. Abdirizak is the current Country director at HESPI Kenyan Office. He is an economist and a financial expert with experience in public and private sectors, and entrepreneurship. Dr. Hassan has developed solid capabilities in institutional development and capacity building covering financial sector development, public financial management, organizational change management, monetary policy development, strengthening and developing a framework for oversight and supervision of banks and non-bank financial institutions; improving financial sector infrastructure and the introduction of core-banking and national payment systems. He is expert in project evaluation, action planning, implementation, qualitative and qualitative and quantitative data gathering, analysis, and presentation.
Hassan has a Ph.D.: Doctor of Philosophy from School of Management, Walden University in Minneapolis, MN, Masters of Financial Economics (MFE) from Ohio University in Athens, OH. Bachelor of Science: International Business and Finance from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business - Columbus, OH. Hassan has a Leadership and Management Certificate from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; Wharton Executive Education, Financial Development and Financial Inclusion Certificate by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Islamic Finance & Economy Certificate from Gateway Global & Istanbul Islamic Finance Consultancy Project Design Certificate – International Training Center (ITC/ILO) , Public Financial Management Certificate – International Monetary Fund (IMF), Inclusive Growth Certificate – International Monetary Fund (IMF)
He has excellent organizational, relationship-building, and documentation skills and prepared to offer over 18 years of related experience to advance institutional reform, development, and transformation. Dr. Hassan continuously engages with different organizational levels (governments & non-government), which enriched his relationship management and leadership skills.
Dr. Hassan is highly experienced in leading and introducing change in a complex environment like Somalia. He brings blended expertise from both public and private sectors has worked and was part of most of the recent Somali Economic and Financial Governance Institutional Support Project (EFGISP). My close working experience with the African Development Bank (AfDB), World Bank (WB), and International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs in the Central Bank of Somalia allowed providing advisory support to Somalia’s financial sector in the past six years. His on the ground experience, along with my administrative and interpersonal skills, should help me support the on-going reforms including the currency reform, regulatory frameworks, national payment system, financial sector reform, and organizational dynamics
