Amb. Hiruy Amanuel’s recent engagements have been with the UN serving as Senior Advisor on Sudan, South Sudan/Horn of Africa Affairs, and as Political Director of the UN Mission in South Sudan. Other regional work took him to Nairobi directing the Africa work of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, and to IGAD to head its regional security program (ICPAT). He earlier served as diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia in various positions including Director General for Europe and America, Charge’ d’affaires at the Embassy in Paris and Ambassador to Germany. Prior to diplomatic work, he worked as a radio journalist and trainer also responsible for external relations of mass public organizations (youth) in Ethiopia. He holds a Master’s Degree in Mass Communications from Syracuse University, USA.
