The Chinese Academic of Social Science (CASS), and the United Nations Office for South – South Cooperation (UNOSSC) jointly organized the South-South Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development seminar on October 21, 2021. The focus of the event was knowledge sharing on poverty eradication for developing economies, exchange of views on the challenges faced on poverty reduction good practices, and on experiences and research findings on poverty reduction. Keynote addresses were made by the President of the UN General Assembly, the Administrator of the United Nations Development program, the President of CASS and the Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Egypt.
The event included presentations by representatives of invited think tanks and announcement of the establishment of a network of think tanks from around the world on poverty eradication and sustainable development. The Horn Economic and Social Policy Institute (HESPI) was among the institutions invited to join the network. The Managing Director of HESPI, Dr. Ali Issa made a presentation at the workshop on “Addressing Food Insecurity and Climate Change for Poverty Reduction”.
